Recently we were asked to create an infographic using a Web 2.0 tool. An infographic is a visual representation of information, data, and knowledge. The infographics we created all focused on tips for teachers that would help them effectively communicate with families. At first the task of creating an infographic seemed daunting to me because I would not consider myself to be an expert in graphic design. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the number of Web 2.0 tools that are available to assist users in creating infographics. After looking over these tools, I chose to use Piktochart to create my infographic.
Piktochart is a free Web 2.0 tool and allows user to modify templates that have been previously created. The template options for the free version of Piktochart are limited, however I found that these template could be modified greatly to meet the needs of my infographic. There is also a paid version of Piktochart that offers hundreds of templates and more options for creating excellent infographics.

Overall, I enjoyed the experience of creating an infographic and I am excited to use Piktochart again. Here is my final product from my first attempt at creating an infographic using Piktochart.
What do you think? Be honest.
Have you used Piktochart before? What did you think about this Web 2.0 tool? Have you found any other helpful sights for creating infographics?

Hey Laura,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to learn a bit about your process for creating the infographic. I can honestly say that when we went around the room looking at different designs, yours really stuck out. When I looked closer I realized it was the info. from the illustrious Group 5! Very cool. I think you did a great job. Very professional looking. I will be sure to check in with you if I ever need to make another infographic as I would like to try Piktochart again (I only looked at it briefly).
I agree, as you mention in your post that the infographics take a fair amount of time. Maybe they would be easier for the kids though! I guess it depends upon the age group and the motivation level. One of the challenges of this project was that the focus was mostly on learning how to use the programs, not so much on the info. itself. It might be easier if the information had a higher purpose in the classroom -- say to persuade in some way, or something like that. Food for thought.
Laura, you are a great blogger! You write in a very engaging manner and get your readers involved with posing questions...I like that! You can import graphics with ease.
ReplyDeleteYour infographic is awesome in every regard. Might want to submit it to Creative Commons for licensing and then on to Pinterest??
